Famous Star Indicted On Charges And Released On Bail Bond
The English tycoon and ex-proprietor of Tottenham Hotspur, Joe Lewis, was indicted on charges of insider trading in the United States and was freed on a $300 million bail, guaranteed by his luxury yacht, the "Aviva," and a private airplane. He entered a plea of not guilty to the accusations, which encompassed 16 counts of securities fraud and three counts of conspiracy to commit fraud. The accusations originated from claims that Lewis divulged secret information to acquaintances, romantic interests, and staff, including personal pilots, who subsequently utilized the data to gain financially in the stock market. Subsequently, Lewis admitted guilt to one charge of collusion to perpetrate stock fraud and two charges of stock fraud. He was ordered to three years of probation and a $5 million fine, evading imprisonment because of his age and health. His company, Broad Bay Ltd, also admitted guilt and was fined $44 million.
